Why unemployed workers are living without Health Insurance
The unemployment rate is on the rise, and this means that more and more people are losing their health insurance benefits. And to make things worse, instead of buying new insurance these people are staying put and hoping that they get a new job soon enough. When this does not happen they are stuck with no health insurance, and no idea on how to get it. This does not sound like fun, does it?
If you are unemployed or feel that this could be coming in your future you need to know where your health insurance is going to come from. Can you afford COBRA? Will you be able to find and buy an individual policy? Can you get on your spouse's plan? No matter what you need to have health insurance. Simply put, living without coverage is not an option and should never even come into play.
If you decide to live without health insurance you will undoubtedly feel the stress from day one. After all, you know that one trip to the doctor could cost you hundreds of dollars. In turn, you will stay away at all costs. This may sound like a good idea, but in the long run it means you are risking your health.
You don't want to live without health insurance no matter if you have a job or are unemployed. Money may be tight, but health insurance is an expense that needs to be at the top of your budget.
