The National Safety Council Urges Lawmakers to Ban All Mobile Phone Use While Driving

Even though 2009 brought more restrictions and bans on cell phone use while driving from several states, the National Safety Council wants more. It has conducted research that shows just how dangerous cell phone use actually is.

• Drivers that talk on their cell phones are 4 times more likely to get into an accident
• Approximately 100 million people, possibly more use cell phones while driving
• 6 percent of auto accidents are caused by cell phone distraction
• Hands-free cell phone devices did not significantly reduce the number of accidents
