Older Drivers Beginning To See Less Risk

For years older drivers and teenagers have been the high risk groups for auto insurance companies. Older drivers, over the age of 55, are not reckless like teenagers, but they are likely to be seriously injured in minor crashes due to the frailty of their bodies.

Older drivers also have a risk of being in an accident due to medical related problems such as diminished eyesight and seizures. These days, more drivers over the age of seventy are on the road and keeping their licenses. But contrary to predictions, studies show that fatal auto accidents among older drivers have declined in the past ten years according to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.

Fatalities since 1975 have decreased 35 percent. Older drivers are less likely to drive drunk and drive safer cars than their younger counterparts. These findings could lead to decreased auto insurance rates for older drivers.
