Higher Than Average Claims For Certain Cars
If you purchase a car, you may want to consider how your auto insurance company views your car when it comes to overall auto insurance claims and risks. The HLDI, Highway Loss Data Institute, regularly releases its findings that measure how often owners of a particular car file auto insurance claims.
The Kia Galant and Mitsubishi Optima owners filed auto insurance claims 27 percent and 39 percent more on average than other owners of other cars. Toyota Camry Hybrid Owners filed claims 12 percent less often than other car owners, interestingly. Some auto insurance companies will put a significant value on the type of car you drive not only when it comes to auto insurance claims, but the cost of repairs, and the risk of that car being stolen.
Sometimes, it may be a good idea to talk to an agent about how a particular car may affect your auto insurance rates before you buy. This way you can accurately factor in the cost of auto insurance in with the sticker price of your car purchase to get a better picture of what that new car will really cost you.
